Cockroach Control

Cockroach Control in Canberra

Cockroaches are among the most persistent and unwelcome pests, attracted to warmth, food and moisture, making kitchens, bathrooms and laundries common problem areas. As nocturnal pests, they often stay hidden during the day, so seeing one can indicate a larger infestation nearby.

The real challenge is that the cockroaches you see are often only a small part of the problem. Others may be hiding in wall cavities, behind appliances and inside cupboards, where they can breed quickly. Surface sprays may provide a temporary fix, but they rarely address the source. Our licensed technicians target cockroach harbourage areas and breeding sites to break the cycle and help prevent them from returning, using treatments selected with the safety of your family and pets in mind.

How to Tell You've
Got Cockroaches

Spotting one cockroach can mean there are more hiding nearby. Look out for these common signs:

  • Live cockroaches scattering when lights come on at night
  • Small dark droppings in cupboards, drawers and pantry corners
  • A musty, oily smell around kitchens, bins and food areas
  • Small brown egg cases hidden behind appliances and cupboards
  • Smear marks along skirting boards, benchtops and inside cabinets

Common Canberra
Cockroaches We Treat

A quick guide to the cockroach species commonly found around Canberra. Each type has different habits, hiding spots and behaviours.

German Cockroach

The small, light-brown one and by far the most common indoors. It breeds at an alarming rate and packs into warm, humid spots close to food — behind fridges, dishwashers and kitchen cupboards. The main target of most treatments.

American Cockroach

The large reddish-brown roach, sometimes called a 'water bug'. It favours drains, subfloors, roof voids and grease traps, and will travel indoors from sewers and garden areas in search of food.

Australian Cockroach

Similar to the American but with yellow markings behind the head. Common outdoors around gardens, bark and subfloors, moving inside through gaps when the weather turns or food is on offer.

Smoky Brown Cockroach

A large, glossy dark-brown roach that loves damp, sheltered spots — roof voids, subfloors, garden mulch and around downpipes. A strong flier that's drawn to lights on warm evenings.

Cockroach Control

More Than
Just Unpleasant

  • Disease

Cockroaches crawl through drains, bins and sewers, then across your benches and food — spreading bacteria like salmonella as they go.

  • Allergies & Asthma

Their droppings, shed skins and saliva are known triggers for asthma and allergies, especially in children.

  • Food Contamination

They contaminate food and preparation surfaces, which is a serious issue for households and a compliance risk for any food business.

  • Rapid Breeding

A single egg case holds dozens of young, so a small problem becomes a full infestation quickly if it's left untreated.

Cockroach Control

Frequently
Asked Questions

How do I get rid of cockroaches permanently?

The key is treating the nests and harbourage points, not just the roaches you see. We use targeted baits and treatment to reach the colony, and combined with removing food and moisture sources, that's what keeps them from breeding back.

Are cockroach treatments safe for children and pets?

Yes. We use family and pet-conscious products, largely gel baits placed discreetly in cracks and cavities out of reach, and we'll talk you through anything you need to know to keep everyone safe.

Why do I only see cockroaches at night?

Cockroaches are nocturnal and shy, so they stay hidden during the day. Seeing them in daylight often means the population has grown large enough that they're being forced out to find food — a sign it's worth treating sooner rather than later.

Does a clean house still get cockroaches?

It can. A spotless kitchen helps, but cockroaches also come in through drains, pipes, deliveries and shared walls in units, and they only need crumbs and a little moisture to settle. Cleanliness reduces the risk but doesn't rule it out.

How long does treatment take to work?

You'll usually notice numbers dropping within a week or so as the bait works through the colony. Heavier infestations can take a little longer and may need a follow-up, which we'll organise to make sure it's fully cleared.
